Salvage title in hand — we buy it

Sell a Car With a Salvage Title in California

A salvage title scares off private buyers, which is odd, because the title itself is not the problem — paperwork is supposed to be the hard part, and paperwork is our specialty. If you have the salvage title or salvage certificate in hand and it's in your name, a salvage-title car is a regular purchase for us. The qualifier is the paperwork, and it's a simple one: title in hand, in your name.

The offer we make is the offer you get for 7 days, when the car matches its description. If hidden or unreported damage is found at pickup, any adjustment is shown with photo evidence before you decide.

Why salvage-title cars get stuck

An insurer totals a car when the repair estimate crosses a percentage of its value — a math threshold, not a verdict that the car is worthless. But the salvage brand that follows closes most doors: private buyers can't easily finance or insure the car, many won't touch paperwork they don't understand, and dealers use the brand as an excuse to offer almost nothing. Meanwhile the cars themselves are all over the map — theft recoveries with barely a scratch, hail cars, and yes, real wrecks. We price the actual car, not the rumor around the brand.

What we need from you

  • The salvage title or salvage certificate, in hand and in your name
  • A photo ID that matches it
  • A working key
  • An honest description of the car's condition — the same year-times-damage line as our damaged car page still applies

If the salvage paperwork exists but isn't in your name yet, tell us in the intake — title situations are the edge this business was built on, and we'll explain the correct next step before scheduling. And if there is no title or certificate at all, that's a different situation with its own rules: see our without-a-title page. In California, a VIN check can sometimes still clear the way — out-of-state, no paperwork means we can't buy the car at all (see our out-of-state title page).

Salvage vs. revived salvage — we buy both

A salvage title becomes a "revived salvage" title after the car is repaired and passes its inspections — brake and lamp (today covered by the Vehicle Safety Systems Inspection), a CHP or DMV inspection and VIN verification, and a smog check. If your car has already been through that and is registered, selling it is even simpler. If it hasn't — it's still wearing the salvage certificate and hasn't turned a wheel in months — that's fine too. We buy it as it sits; the revival process becomes our problem, not yours. (If the inspections are what's stopping you, our failed inspection page explains how we look at those.)

How it works

01

Send the intake with the salvage details

Tell us it's a salvage title, how the car was damaged, and whether it starts and drives.

02

Get a written, guaranteed offer

The salvage brand is priced in from the start — not used as a surprise deduction at your curb. The offer holds for 7 days.

03

Sign the title over at pickup

You sign the salvage title or certificate, we pay you, and the tow inside our service area is free.

Salvage title questions

Do you buy cars with salvage titles?

Yes — with the salvage title or salvage certificate in hand and in your name, a salvage-title car is a regular purchase for us, not an exception. Send the intake, describe the damage honestly, and you'll get a written offer guaranteed for 7 days.

I have the salvage certificate but never registered the car. Can I still sell it?

Yes — that's the normal case, not a problem case. Bring the salvage certificate and your photo ID to the pickup; the transfer paperwork is handled there, and whatever registration or revival steps remain become ours after the purchase.

My salvage car has no title at all — it was lost. What then?

Then it follows the no-title rules rather than the salvage rules. In California we can run the VIN: if it comes back clear and registered in your name, we can still buy the car — that process is explained on our without-a-title page. If the car isn't in your name, we can't buy it.

Does a salvage title destroy the car's value?

It lowers it compared to a clean title — that's priced in, honestly, from the start. But brand and condition are different things: a newer salvage car in good running shape can still be worth real money, and a theft-recovery car may have almost nothing wrong with it. Describe the actual car and let the offer speak.
