These are the issues Q5 owners call us about most. None of them end the conversation — they’re priced in:

• 2.0T oil consumption. Early 2.0T Q5s are documented for piston-ring oil consumption that Audi addressed with rebuild programs; out of coverage, an oil-drinking Q5 faces an engine-out quote. Owners add oil for a while, then sell when consumption passes a quart per tank.
• Timing chain and tensioner wear. Both the four-cylinder and the V6 wear their chain drives; the V6's chains live at the back of the engine, making the job an engine-out event. Chain noise at startup is the sound that ends many Q5 ownerships.
• Carbon buildup and injector age. Direct injection brings intake carbon on the 2.0T and 3.0T alike, with injectors and high-pressure pumps joining the bill at higher miles. The drivability fades gradually, and owners sell the fade rather than fund the restoration.
• Panoramic roof drain leaks. Clogged panoramic roof drains flood footwells and electronic modules, producing electrical faults that seem unrelated until someone traces the water. A wet Q5 with gremlins is a car owners sell quickly and cheaply, because the diagnosis frightens everyone.

Paperwork problems count too.
