• Magnetic ride shock leaks. The magnetic dampers weep and fail with age, and they are priced as the exotic parts they are — a set is a five-figure conversation at dealer prices. Owners sell at the second leaking corner more often than the first.
• Air conditioning compressor failure. On the V8 cars especially, the AC compressor is driven off the engine in a way that makes replacement an engine-out job on early cars. A warm cabin in an R8 is not a recharge — it is a quote that has ended ownerships.
• Carbon buildup on the FSI engines. Both the 4.2 V8 and the early 5.2 V10 are direct-injected only and build intake carbon that dulls the response the car exists for. Cleaning is head-work priced accordingly, and it stacks with clutch and shock bills.
• Early frame cracking and R tronic clutch wear. The earliest V8 cars have a documented front frame cracking issue Audi addressed with reinforcement, and the single-clutch R tronic wears like the automated manual it is. Either discovery at inspection re-prices a car hard, and sellers know it.
