Every SQ5 develops its known issues with age, and these are the ones we see most. Private buyers walk away from every one of them; we price them in instead:

• Water pump, thermostat, and PCV failures. The 3.0L V6 family's plastic cooling parts and PCV system are its documented weak points, and the supercharged cars bury them under the blower, multiplying the labour. One cooling fault, properly quoted, is a common SQ5 sale trigger.
• Timing chain wear at the back of the engine. The V6's rear-mounted chain drive makes tensioner and guide service an engine-out job when the cold-start rattle arrives. Owners keep the car while it's quiet and list it when it isn't — the rattle is the listing.
• Carbon buildup. Both generations are direct-injected and build intake carbon, costing performance the owner can feel in a car bought for performance. The cleaning bill, stacked with brakes and tyres, is the arithmetic that sells SQ5s.
• Performance consumable costs. Large brakes, wide tyres, and a driven-hard life mean an SQ5 at 80,000 miles can need several thousand dollars of consumables at once. Owners who did not budget for the performance premium sell the car to someone who will.
