The XT4 launched for 2019 as Cadillac's entry-level luxury crossover, below the XT5, using a 2.0L turbocharged four-cylinder and nine-speed automatic in front- or all-wheel drive. It shared its platform with other compact GM crossovers but carried Cadillac styling, trim, and available Super Cruise in its final years. A refresh for 2024 brought a curved dashboard display shared with newer Cadillacs. Production ended after the 2025 model year as Cadillac shifted its lineup.

Common XT4 problems we still buy

Every XT4 develops its known issues with age, and these are the ones we see most. Private buyers walk away from every one of them; we price them in instead:

• Engine vacuum pump failure risk. The 2.0L turbo engine's cam-driven vacuum pump is a documented GM concern: a failing pump can lose brake assist or, in severe cases, send debris into the engine. That risk makes owners take pump symptoms seriously, and some sell rather than fund engine-level repairs.
• Stop-start system and battery faults. XT4s lean heavily on their stop-start system, and aging batteries and sensors cause rough restarts, warning messages, and disabled features. Chasing intermittent electrical behavior takes dealer-level diagnosis, and frustrated owners of out-of-warranty cars often sell rather than continue paying for the hunt.
• Nine-speed automatic shift quality. The nine-speed automatic can shift harshly or hesitantly at low speeds, particularly when cold, and software updates only partly smooth some cars. Persistent shift complaints sour owners on an otherwise tidy crossover, and transmission concerns are a common reason an XT4 comes up for sale.
• Coolant leaks and thermostat faults. Turbo four-cylinder XT4s can develop coolant leaks at hoses, fittings, and thermostat components that are hard to spot until the level drops. Cooling parts and labor on a modern luxury crossover add up, leading owners with repeat leaks to sell instead of resealing the system.

Paperwork problems count too.
