Selling your Maxima in Fresno & Clovis

Maximas accumulate miles quietly in the Valley: long Highway 99 commutes, cars handed down to new drivers, and daily drivers that have simply outlasted two or three other cars in the same family. A Nissan showing 180,000 or 220,000 miles isn’t unusual here, and it isn’t a problem for us — high mileage is normal for this model and priced into every offer we make.

The sixth-generation A34 Maxima (2004–2008) and seventh-generation A35 (2009–2014) moved the model upmarket with standard V6 power and CVTs. The eighth-generation A36 (2016–2023) adopted dramatic styling before Nissan ended Maxima production after 2023.

The usual trigger is a shop quote: CVT failure and overheating is common on the Maxima, and timing chain tensioner wear on VQ35 isn’t far behind it. Faced with that bill, most owners would rather sell the car as it sits. That’s our whole business — we price the problems in and make one clear offer, guaranteed for 7 days.

Nissan Maxima at a glance: 2004–2023 model years · midsize sport sedan · every trim considered — what matters is that it starts, drives, and has a working key.

Common Maxima problems we still buy

Every Maxima develops its known issues with age, and these are the ones we see most. Private buyers walk away from every one of them; we price them in instead:

  • CVT failure and overheating. Maximas from the A34 onward use CVTs known for overheating, shudder, and failure, with earlier five-speed automatics also having shift problems. Transmission cost is the most common reason these sedans are sold non-running or as-is.
  • Timing chain tensioner wear on VQ35. The 3.5-liter VQ engine can develop timing chain and tensioner wear that rattles on startup. The repair is labor-heavy and often exceeds what owners will spend on an older sedan.
  • Steering lock failure on A35. 2009–2010 Maximas are known for electronic steering column lock failure that can leave the car unable to start, addressed by a Nissan service campaign. A sudden no-start is a frequent final straw for sellers.
  • A/C compressor and alternator failures. A/C compressors and alternators are common higher-mileage failures on V6 Maximas, and alternator replacement is unusually labor-intensive. Stacked electrical and cooling repairs often lead to a sale.

Paperwork problems count too. If your Maxima failed its smog check, the registration has expired, or the title is lost or in someone else’s name, those pages explain how we handle each case — in most of them, we can still buy the car. We buy Maximas all over Fresno and Clovis and pay at pickup, with free towing inside the service area.

How we price Nissans, honestly: the trucks, the Pathfinder and Xterra, and the Z are the strong side of the brand. The cars are priced on the state of the transmission — the CVT's real condition and the miles on it decide the number, and we will show our work at review. A Nissan that drives right is a Nissan we want.

How selling your Maxima works here

Step 1

Tell us about your Maxima

One short form — year, model, mileage, and 12 quick condition questions. Honest answers are what let us hold the offer.

Step 2

Get one clear offer

We check the real market for your exact Maxima and send one offer — no instant lowball from a computer. If the vehicle matches its description, the offer is guaranteed for 7 days.

Step 3

We pick it up, you get paid

Free pickup in the Fresno–Clovis area, often as soon as the next day when scheduling allows. You sign, get paid at pickup, and hand over the keys — we handle the smog and DMV paperwork after the purchase.

One honest limit: the car does need to start and drive, and have a working key. Fixable problems are our specialty; a car that can’t move under its own power isn’t a fit.

Maxima seller questions

My Maxima failed smog and the registration is expired. Can I sell it?

Usually, yes. A failed smog check and back registration are two of the most common Maxima situations we handle — tell us about them in the application and they’re priced into the offer instead of stopping the sale. We handle the smog and DMV side after the purchase.

My Maxima has over 200,000 miles. Is that a problem?

High mileage alone doesn’t disqualify a Maxima — in the Valley it’s the norm for this model. If it starts, drives, and has a working key, report the mileage honestly in the application and we’ll price the whole car, not just the odometer.

What Maxima years do you buy?

We buy the Nissan Maxima across the 2004–2023 range, and we’ll look at older examples case by case. Condition matters more than the year — a high-mileage Maxima that starts, drives, and has a working key is exactly what the form is for.

My Maxima has CVT failure and overheating. Will you still buy it?

Usually, yes — that is one of the documented Maxima issues, and it’s priced in, not rejected. The same goes for the rest of this model’s known list. What we can’t buy: no working key, a blown engine, a Maxima that won’t start or drive, or major structural damage.
