Selling your Boxster in Fresno & Clovis

Boxsters accumulate miles quietly in the Valley: long Highway 99 commutes, cars handed down to new drivers, and daily drivers that have simply outlasted two or three other cars in the same family. A Porsche showing 180,000 or 220,000 miles isn’t unusual here, and it isn’t a problem for us — high mileage is normal for this model and priced into every offer we make.

The Boxster launched for 1997 (986) as Porsche's mid-engine entry roadster, with 2.5L, later 2.7L, and 3.2L S flat-sixes. The 987 generation (2005-2012) sharpened the styling and added direct injection late in the run. The lighter 981 (2013-2016) was the last six-cylinder mainstream car before the 718 generation (2017-2025) switched to turbocharged fours, with a naturally aspirated 4.0L six returning in the GTS 4.0 and Spyder.

The usual trigger is a shop quote: IMS bearing failure (986 and early 987) is common on the Boxster, and bore scoring on S engines isn’t far behind it. Faced with that bill, most owners would rather sell the car as it sits. That’s our whole business — we price the problems in and make one clear offer, guaranteed for 7 days.

Common Boxster problems we still buy

Every Boxster develops its known issues with age, and these are the ones we see most. Private buyers walk away from every one of them; we price them in instead:

  • IMS bearing failure (986 and early 987). Like the 911, the 986 and early 987 Boxster carry an intermediate shaft bearing that can fail and take the engine with it. Cars without a documented upgraded bearing are priced for that risk, and owners often sell rather than pay for preventive engine work.
  • Bore scoring on S engines. The 3.2L and 3.4L S engines are documented for cylinder bore scoring that causes ticking, oil use, and eventually a rebuild conversation. Confirming it takes a borescope, and because a quality rebuild costs more than many cars are worth, owners commonly sell at diagnosis.
  • Air-oil separator failure. A failing air-oil separator produces dramatic white smoke on startup, rough running, and oil drawn into the intake, and it is one of the most common Boxster faults. The part is inexpensive but access is miserable, and repeat failures push owners toward selling the car.
  • Convertible top and rear window wear. Plastic rear windows crack and cloud on 986 cars, top fabrics tear at the folds, and the top's pushrod and transmission mechanism break parts with age. A top replacement rivals the value of an early car, so sellers pass the job to the next owner.

Paperwork problems count too. If your Boxster failed its smog check, the registration has expired, or the title is lost or in someone else’s name, those pages explain how we handle each case — in most of them, we can still buy the car. We buy Boxsters all over Fresno and Clovis and pay at pickup, with free towing inside the service area.

How selling your Boxster works here

Step 1

Tell us about your Boxster

One short form — year, model, mileage, and 12 quick condition questions. Honest answers are what let us hold the offer.

Step 2

Get one clear offer

We check the real market for your exact Boxster and send one offer — no instant lowball from a computer. If the vehicle matches its description, the offer is guaranteed for 7 days.

Step 3

We pick it up, you get paid

Free pickup in the Fresno–Clovis area, often as soon as the next day when scheduling allows. You sign, get paid at pickup, and hand over the keys — we handle the smog and DMV paperwork after the purchase.

One honest limit: the car does need to start and drive, and have a working key. Fixable problems are our specialty; a car that can’t move under its own power isn’t a fit.

Boxster seller questions

How fast can you pick up my Boxster, and when do I get paid?

Pickup can be as soon as tomorrow in the Fresno–Clovis area when scheduling allows, and you’re paid at pickup — after a quick check that the vehicle matches its description, you sign, get paid, and hand over the keys.

What Boxster years do you buy?

We buy the Porsche Boxster across the 1997-2025 range, and we’ll look at older examples case by case. Condition matters more than the year — a high-mileage Boxster that starts, drives, and has a working key is exactly what the form is for.

How much is my Boxster worth to you?

It depends on the year, mileage, trim, and condition — a late-model Boxster and a 200,000-mile commuter are different cars, and we price them that way. We check the real market for your exact Boxster and send one clear offer, guaranteed for 7 days if the car matches its description. No instant computer number that changes at pickup.

My Boxster’s title is lost or in someone else’s name. Can I sell it?

Often, yes. Tell us the title situation in the application — lost titles, titles signed by a previous owner, and lien paperwork are situations we walk through every week, and we’ll explain the correct next step before scheduling pickup.
